Terms of Use
Last updated 30 October 2026
Plain English: Gapfill introduces painters to companies. We don't employ the painters, and we're not a labour-hire company. The painter and the company work out the job and the pay between themselves.
1. About these terms
These terms apply to everyone who uses gapfill.com.au or books through Gapfill. By joining or booking, you agree to them. Gapfill (ABN 16 608 001 325) is referred to as "Gapfill", "we" or "us".
2. What Gapfill does
Gapfill keeps a list of independent painters in Melbourne and introduces them to painting companies, builders and property businesses that need extra hands. We find and confirm a painter, then put the painter and the company in touch.
3. What Gapfill doesn't do
- We don't employ painters, supervise their work or pay their wages.
- We aren't a party to the agreement between a painter and a company. Rates, hours, site rules and payment are agreed between them.
- We don't guarantee the quality of a painter's work, though we only list painters we're happy to recommend.
4. Your details must be true
Everyone must give accurate details. Painters must only claim tickets, licences and experience they actually hold. We may remove anyone who gives false information.
5. Behaviour
Treat each other with respect, follow site safety rules, and don't use Gapfill for anything unlawful. We can suspend or remove anyone who breaks these terms.
6. Liability
Nothing in these terms removes your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. As far as the law allows, Gapfill isn't liable for the work a painter does, for injury or damage on site, or for disputes between a painter and a company. Where we are liable, our liability is limited to refunding the Gapfill fee for that booking.
7. Disputes
If something goes wrong, email hello@gapfill.com.au and we'll work with you to sort it out. These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia.
8. Changes
We may update these terms. Changes don't affect bookings already confirmed.
Terms for companies
Plain English: you pay Gapfill for finding you a painter, and only once they've turned up. You pay the painter separately for their work. If nobody shows, you pay nothing and we try to find someone else.
1. Booking a painter
Tell us the job, the dates and the tickets it needs. We'll text you the details of a confirmed painter, usually within a few hours. We only send painters who hold the tickets you asked for. If public liability insurance matters for your site, tick it when you book: not every subbie carries it.
2. Pay as you go
- The fee is $230 per painter, per booking.
- To lock in a booking, you save a card with Stripe. Nothing is charged at that point.
- Your card is charged once the painter checks in on site by sending us a photo from site on the start day.
- If the painter doesn't arrive, you aren't charged.
3. Monthly plans
| Plan | Price | Painter introductions |
|---|---|---|
| Crew | $349 a month | 3 a month |
| Contractor | $649 a month | 8 a month, plus priority matching and a direct text line to the founder |
- Plans are charged monthly in advance to your saved card.
- Plans have a 3-month minimum. After that, cancel any time and the plan ends at the close of that month. We'll remind you before each renewal.
- Unused introductions don't roll over to the next month.
- An introduction counts once the painter checks in. A no-show doesn't use one up.
4. The Show-Up Guarantee
If your painter doesn't turn up on the agreed start day, you aren't charged for that booking and we'll do our best to find a replacement at no extra cost. We can't promise a replacement will always be available at short notice. If none is found, there's still no charge.
5. Founding offer
The first 30 companies to join the Crew plan keep the $349 monthly price for 12 months from their start date, even if the standard price goes up. The offer ends once 30 companies have joined, or earlier if we announce it on the site.
6. GST
Gapfill isn't registered for GST, so our prices don't include GST. If that changes, we'll give you 30 days' notice before prices change.
7. Paying the painter
You pay the painter directly, at the rate you agree with them, on the terms you agree with them. Gapfill doesn't handle painters' pay and isn't responsible for it.
8. Hiring a painter directly
If you book a painter through Gapfill and then hire that same painter yourself, without booking through us, within 6 months of their first job with you, you agree to pay Gapfill a one-off fee of $230 for that painter. After 6 months, you're free to work with them directly at no cost. This keeps the service fair for everyone.
9. Your responsibilities
Provide a safe site, any inductions the job needs, and clear instructions. You're responsible for the work you direct the painter to do.
10. Cancelling a booking
Cancel any time before the start day at no cost: nothing is charged until check-in. Please tell us as early as you can so we can let the painter know.
11. Disputed charges
If you're charged and believe the painter didn't arrive, email hello@gapfill.com.au within 7 days. We'll check the check-in photo and refund you if it wasn't valid.
Terms for painters
Plain English: joining is free, forever. You stay your own boss: you choose your jobs, agree your rate and invoice the company yourself. Just turn up when you say yes, and send us a photo when you get there.
1. Free to join
Painters never pay Gapfill anything. Gapfill is paid by the companies we find painters for.
2. You're an independent contractor
You aren't an employee of Gapfill, and you work for companies as a subcontractor. You're responsible for your own tax, super, ABN, invoices and, if you carry it, insurance. You agree your rate and payment terms directly with the company.
3. Choosing jobs
We'll text you jobs that match your area and skills. You can say yes or no to any job, with no penalty for saying no.
4. When you say yes
- Saying yes means you'll be there on the agreed start day and time.
- We'll share your name, mobile, experience and tickets with that company only.
- If something comes up and you can't make it, tell us straight away so we can find a replacement.
- Repeated no-shows without notice may mean we stop sending you jobs.
5. Checking in
When you arrive on site on the start day, send us a quick photo from site. This confirms you've arrived. Only send genuine photos taken on the day, at that site.
6. Your documents
After you join, we'll ask for photos of your tickets and licences, and your insurance if you have it. We check them before matching you to jobs that need them. Only claim what you actually hold.
7. Photos of your work
If you send us photos of your past work, you confirm you're allowed to share them. You let Gapfill show them to companies when matching you to jobs.
8. Your details
We handle your details as set out in our Privacy Policy. Ask us to remove your profile at any time by emailing hello@gapfill.com.au.
